‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan is humbuggery - Shobha Ojha
Addressing a press conference yesterday at the residence HPCC president Dr Ashok Tanwar in Sirsa, Smt Shobha Ojha, national president ‘All India Mahila Congress’ said that the much hyped slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ of the BJP Govt. was nothing more than humbuggery, one hand the Govt is propelling this slogan, on the other Haryana Govt has already cut the budget meant for the welfare of the women by 50%. Haryana Govt. is not filling the vacancies of school teachers and is instead resorting to Lathicharge on protesting teachers. How will it accomplish ‘Beti Padhao’ in schools sans teachers? She asked.

Atrocities and crime on women in Haryana have increased substantially during the BJP rule; discrimination against women and backward classes is on the rise. By delaying the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Local bodies’ elections, BJP Govt. in Haryana is obstructing the democratic rights of people. She reminded the same tact of BJP played in Gujarat where Panchayat much delayed elections could be held only after the intervention of the Court of Law. ‘Aam Aadmi ka Adhikar Chinana BJP ka Kaam’ she quipped.
Speaking on inflation she said that BJP Governments have always promoted hoarding and hoarders, this has resulted in sharp rise in commodities and essential goods, if this was not enough a 0.5% cess in the name of ‘Swachata Abhiyaan’ has been clamped over, but ‘Swachata’ is visible nowhere. This will only be a further burden on middle and lower middle class, she added.
Commenting on Bihar elections, she said that people of Bihar have voted with great wisdom and given a thumping mandate against communal designs of BJP and RSS. Congress always stands behind those who are opposed to communal forces.
Answering to question about BJP’s belittling the legacy of Nehru and Gandhi she said that BJP and RSS had absolutely no role in the freedom struggle of India, any attempt to dilute the contribution of Nehru and Gandhi and other leaders of that time will only backfire against BJP as public is wise enough and know the history very well.

Before that she presided over a program on women empowerment commemorating the birth anniversary of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi at Congress Bhawan Sirsa. She was flanked by Mrs Avantika Makan Tanwar, Dr Ashok Tanwar, Smt Sumitra Chauhan state president Mahila Congress Haryana, Smt Neetu Verma, Smt Urmil Bhardwaj etc. The program was well attended and marked the presence of large number of women.
